I'm officially over-the-moon for fall. Don't get me wrong, spring is nice and showy, winter is crisp and clean, and summer is pretty and bright. But Fall is GORGEOUS!
Especially if you are lucky enough to live in a place with seasons. Green turns to a delightful gold, which turns to brilliant orange,
which turns to an amazing red.I've been reveling in it while I drive to work, and when I drive home. My favorite tree on my way to work has been slowing changing a little bit each day. Here's what it looked like today:
This morning I went a bit crazy on my bike ride, and took 168 pictures. Here are some of the best, which don't even capture the true beauty. I've interspersed the pics with words from two songs that ran through my mind: The chorus of the Hymn, "All Things Bright and Beautiful" and the primary song "My Heavenly Father Loves Me."
All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful:the Lord God made them all.
Whenever I hear the song of a bird
Or look at the blue blue sky,
Whenever I feel the rain on my face
Or the wind as it rushes by,
Whenever I touch a velvet rose
Or walk by a lilac tree,
I'm glad that I live in this beautiful world
Heavenly Father created for me.
He gave me my eyes that I might see
The color of butterfly wings.
He gave me my ears that I might hear
The magical sound of things.
He gave me my life, my mind, my heart:
I thank him reverently
For all his creations of which I'm a part.
Yes, I know Heavenly Father loves me.This church sign summed it up:
If you live in a place where fall hasn't quite hit yet, this one's for you:Can you spot "the face"?

As if I didn't miss Virginian falls enough. Sigh...
ReplyDeleteBut thank you, these are wondrous. I love the "Coming Soon!" sign. Also, I love both those songs, but the line "He gave me my ears that I might hear / the wonderful sound of things" always makes me laugh because of its lack of specificity. And finally, no, I don't see a face at all? Where is it? Or is this some terrible trick?
Thanks for the pictures. The fall can be pretty in Utah, but it doesn't approach the grandeur of the East, and it all comes and goes in one day. I keep hoping to be back in Virginia again for fall one of these years. Thanks Debbie!
ReplyDeleteBiggins, it's the face of a Swine Flu victim.
Austin, I've never thought that line of the song was funny, but now I will think of you each time I sing it!
ReplyDeleteThe face is in that last picture - the leaves are the mouth and the knots in the wood are the eyes.
Alright, I sorta see it...
ReplyDeleteYou are so true. I love fall too. Your pictures look great. I need to talk Joe into letting us come and visit you.
